Newark Wildlife Wildlife Advice:

Problem with Squirrels in the Attic - Squirrels are the animals that live in trees but some time they just find a way in our homes and make a living in the attic. In such a case you can hear noises in there. These animals are normally active in daytime, so you will hear noises in day time only and sometimes you will able to see them too. Once you are sure that squirrels are living in your attic, you may think that what they are doing there. These animals are living in trees but attics are more suitable to them. Attics are normally warm and dark that is why squirrels are attracted towards these places. Squirrels can easily get into the wooden attics. The can chew the wood and can make a way to it. They can also enter in the attics from any wholes. They will try to find a little gap and will make their way into it. The biggest problems with squirrels are that they can chew. They can chew PVC lines, electrical wires and many other things in the attic, at the same time they can cause many diseases too. So you just have to remove them. It is very difficult to get rid of them once they have entered a house. The main objective here is to find ways to get rid of squirrels. Sometimes they just leave on their own. But it happens only if there is a female squirrel with young children. But it is possible that they come back very soon also. To get rid of squirrels many people just use poisons and some repellents. But they are not good enough. Here we see some better methods to remove squirrels from the attic. The first and the simplest way is to use a trap. But the trap should be used in the right way. A lot of squirrel’s traps are available in the market. The body grip traps are quite similar to rat traps and they are able to kill the squirrels. But they are very difficult and dangerous to use. Only experts can use them in a better way. The other type is a single animal cage trap, which consists of a cage and can trap a single squirrel at a time. This is their biggest disadvantage. So it is need to use repeating cage traps to trap many squirrels at the same time. Place this trap in the way of the squirrels and if there is no other way out, all the squirrels will be trapped very soon. This trap has a one way door, so squirrels can enter the cage but will not be able to leave the cage. The best way to get rid of squirrels is to use a one way exclusion door trap. This trap is much better than the repeating trap. It consists of a simple one way door, which will allow the squirrels to leave the attic but will not allow them to enter gain into the attic. When squirrels go out for food they will pass through the trap but on their return they will not find a path to the attic. But if once you have got rid of them, they can come back. So now you have to stop them to renter in the attic. For this purpose you have to check your attic and should fill up all the holes in the attic. They can also enter in your home from soffit at the roof and then they will move to the attic. They can also enter from chimneys, so it is better to use a good trap on all the holes which cannot be closed. In the end remember one thing, never ever feed the squirrels. Many people just think them as small and cute animals and start feeding them. But doing so, they can never stop squirrels from entering in their house.
